From the San Antonio Express-News:

A former four-term Jim Wells County district attorney pleaded guilty Monday to a felony count of misappropriating more than $2 million in asset forfeiture funds.

Joe Frank Garza, 64, whose last term ended in 2008, was indicted last year for allegedly using the funds for his personal benefit and that of other office employees.

As part of the proposed plea agreement, he will repay $2.16 million to the county, a $10,000 fine and surrender his law license.

The case was investigated by the Texas attorney general’s office, which is asking that Garza serve 180 days in jail as a condition of getting 10 years probation. He will be sentenced May 6.

More, please.
