DEA Forfeiture Letters Sent to WA Dispensaries

On August 23, 2012, in Drug War, federal, states, by Eapen Thampy

Via Oregon Live:

The federal government is warning marijuana dispensaries operating in school zones in Western Washington to shut down or face possible prosecution.

The Drug Enforcement Administration says it sent warning letters Thursday to the operators and landlords of 23 dispensaries that are located within 1,000 feet of a school or playground. The letters say that if the storefronts don’t stop selling and distributing marijuana within 30 days, they could face criminal prosecution or forfeit the properties to the federal government.

Seattle U.S. Attorney Jenny Durkan says people work hard to create safe zones for schoolchildren, and that both state and federal laws emphasize that drugs have no place near schools.
